It starts off as your average spess mahreen fluff but as the situation grows dire the space marines slowly crack under pressure and do some heinous things.

Peter Fehervari's Nightfall, like Ford before him, wrote a fun and exciting piece of horror, but it leaves you with too many questions that begin "why. This was my first warhammer 40k book, and the only real thing it made me think was "Why would anyone even like the space marines? The story is very well written and is both entertaining and funny in places with some nice action scenes and a good plot.

This anthology features an Ultramarines series tie-in by Graham McNeill featuring the Iron Warrior Honsou, a prequel story to the Salamander series by Nick Kyme, a tie-in to the Imperial Fists series by Chris Roberson and Deathwatch and Night Lords stories, setting the stars ablaze with the fury of the Space Marines. All of those are the heroic Space Marine fluff style stuff that makes me want to die a hero, and that is exactly what I was looking for when I cracked the book. Outside of that story, none of the others really stuck out in my mind and that story is really the reason for my rating. Renegades by Gav Thorpe lacked technical ability and nearly lost me at the beginning, but picked up later on and pulled it out of the hat.

In my opinion only 3 of the short stories are really worthy of the subject matter, and 2 of them are almost exactly the same. he most heroic battle-brothers in a Space Marine company often form an elite retinue, sworn to fight alongside their Captain. It's funny reading work by someone I know: I could imagine him penning this between Berlitz lessons or after his usual Herculean training sessions, Tokyo's summer heat bursting from his shaven pate in thick runnels of sweat. Each of the stories follows marines of either the Imperium or Chaos as they fight their foes and complete their missions. This story tells of an encounter by the Salamanders Space Marine Chapter battling Chaos forces and the Dragon Warriors Chaos Space Marines.The characters are good, especially Chaplin Argo who is a nice departure from the usual fire and brimstone Chaplains that you usually get. The 103 third parties who use cookies on this service do so for their purposes of displaying and measuring personalized ads, generating audience insights, and developing and improving products. But this is a really good intro to many of the series the Black Library has going, so it's worth reading just for that - assuming you have any interest in the 40K universe, and if you don't why are you reading this anyway?
