So if you want the heatsink to be parallel to the RAM slots (with the heatpipes facing upwards), you need to use the AMB11 (long) brackets. The sides of the fins are also shaped to provide a secure place for the metallic fan clips to sit while holding the fan in both available positions: under or above the heatsink. The cooler has excellent cooling performance in its class but is not suitable for overclocking and should be used with caution on processors with more than 95W TDP (Thermal Design Power). I've always liked the Noctua logo at the front fin and I’m glad they are keeping the tradition alive.

The self-developed fans from Noctua are also largely responsible for this, which are also available separately to serve as case, CPU or radiator fans. Anybody who has been near their share of computer systems will appreciate that not all systems make the same amount of noise.I know the Fractal terra is a small case and airflow isn't optimal, but I'm just not sure if this is normal.

Complying with the open SecuFirm standard, the NH-C14S can be made compatible with the older LGA1366 and LGA775 sockets using the optional NM-I3 mounting kit, which is provided by Noctua free of charge. Unfortunately the kit would not work on the NH-L9a we have, however Noctua does have a specific adapter kit for this, the NM-AM4-L9aL9i mounting kit. Danger: The NH-L12S is a low-profile, silent cooler designed for use in compact cases and HTPC environments. Apart from the “love it or hate it” fan colour scheme, the aesthetics are what we have come to expect from the brand, with simple, clean lines and no “fluff” or extraneous features. It’s easy to install, the build quality is outstanding as you would expect from Noctua products and the attention to detail is spot on.Or if you want it to cover the RAM slots (with the heatpipes facing the rear I/O) you need to use the AMB10 (short) brackets and install them across like so. Anyway through the tests the fan was working at full speed and was pretty noisy, but after I was done with the test and when I set it to be PWM powered and regulated it was running at low to average speed range and was pretty quiet. At the same time, the NH-L12S is highly versatile: with the fan installed on top of the fins, the cooler is compatible with RAM modules of up to 45mm in height. As you can see, it fits like a glove in all directions, as long as you use LP RAM kits like this Corsair LPX Vengeance series which are 31 mm tall.

You may have noticed in the full results table was a “Silence Tuned” section for the NH-L12S, for this I decided to see what was the quietest I could get the system to run the Prime 2 threads + Unigine Valley test whilst maintaining a CPU temp of 70C. In previous tests of the relative models, I found that each cooler family performed excellently, with amazing performance considering the lack of noise. As you open the packaging, you are greeted by the accessory box which is perfect because it depicts exactly what’s included. In AIDA64 we isolated the stress test just for the CPU therefore we should get the highest stress scenario for the CPU. The materials used in the construction of the cooler are aluminum for the fins and nickel-plated copper for the baseplate and heatpipes.

Because the temperatures recorded thus far are based on motherboard fan control settings, I then plug the fan(s) into pure 12v, maxing the fan speed. IIRC the AM5 mounting bracket should fit on AM4, and it may offer a benefit since both zen 3 and zen 4 CPUs have their CCDs at the towards bottom of the substrate(towards the PCIE slot).
