Description

In it's earliest days there were likely teenage whiskeys going in, but as the barrel brokerage market has begun to teem with competition, the average age has crept lower and lower with every new year. Long before I understood the importance of fermentation and distillation, I assumed aging was everything. You will defend (at our option), indemnify and hold harmless us and our parents, affiliates, subsidiaries, (sub)licensees, assignees, successors, authorized third party contractors from any and all loss, damage, claim, liability or expense (including reasonable outside legal fees and costs) actually incurred as a result of a third party claim arising out of a breach or alleged breach of your obligations, representations and warranties made herein.

However, if you’re quick to go through various styles and expressions, you’re going to be left wondering what’s next. Both bottles have similar fill levels (each was sipped from exactly 2 times prior to this) and they are both going into a glencairn glass that will be filled to equal levels at the same time. The rye forms a beautiful base of vanilla, caramel and cinnamon; the port barrels is enhanced with plums and dried fruits and the French oak provides a spice accent. I recently started a discussion about perceived differences on the legendary port finished rye release from High West , A Midwinter Night's Dram .

As for the tipple at hand, as someone who only occasionally enjoys rye whiskeys I always find myself reaching for this one in the winter months. Mix in the fact that you have a proud distillery that has been making spirits since 2007 wanting to get their own name on the map, and you have an inconsistent recipe for a bottling that is only released once per year.

If you can get this at retail, then I say this is an 8, although, I’m only basing it on this release. This results in the whisky has a rich, deep character bringing smooth honey flavours with hints of spice and soft heather.Unless mandatory applicable law provides otherwise, your use of and membership to the Service are exclusively governed by Dutch law. For us, A Midwinter Night's Dram tastes like a proper Christmas plum pudding with lovely mulling spices, dried fruits, and crème anglaise. Now, with the most recent Act 9 ( or 10…not sure, I gave up on them after Act 5), it’s supposedly better, but still no where as good as the early Act 2 and 3, and about 3-4x pricier. There are almost no hard truths in this world and it gives me a exciting moment (or several hours) to put down math and science (my day job) to just explore the magic of it all. In the mouth: Starts with an elegant and fine presentation, harmoniously balanced between the intrinsic rye flavor and the port influence.

We recommend that you enjoy this special spirit neat, due to its many layers of complexity, next to a warm fire as the snow piles up on the window sill. If you terminate your account, you will no longer have access to the Service and your Contributions (specified below), if any. The blend of straight rye whiskeys — the base being the Rendezvous Rye expression — is finished in ruby and tawny port barrels, then bottled in the high 90s on proof. There’s definitely the rich and round aroma of vintage port, but also some subtly smoky notes of campfire.

A gentle, sweetish but more sour and dry arrival, becoming quite toffeed during the development, with some wood sour, ginger, mixed berry jam, some burnt caramel. The notes above summarize this pour well - it's also damn delicious by the way if that wasn't clear. This limited release whiskey is a sumptuous marriage of our Rendezvous Rye finished in both port and French oak barrels. Underripe apricots, ginger poached pears, soft licorice, apple butter on fresh bread, Earl Grey tea, a cedar box, geraniums after a spring rain. When it comes to overall complexity and depth of the finish, Act 11 doesn’t quite hit the superlative notes of some earlier releases, particularly Acts 1 through 4.

I've been enjoying these personally since Act 6 which released in 2018, and have had the pleasure of sipping on every act since then. Though, I’m personally predisposed to the Sweet Swan of Avon myself – and so enjoy any reviewer who ventures to imbue him in their consideration of this dram.I don’t get any off flavors but there’s just too many fruity notes which may have come from the umeshi-influence.
