Admittedly, the first chapter of this book threw me off slightly, me being unsure as to where this book was going to go. But it soon took off, with mystery, danger, magic, and romance, this book and the first in it’s trilogy, is the perfect set up and has left the series open to so much more! I couldn’t put this book down. Every spare chance I’ve had, has been spent with these characters. There’s so much going on in this book, and the story twists and turns, bringing triumph, heartache, and surprise after surprise. I was constantly on the edge of my seat, not knowing what was going to happen, and I loved the ride! From jewelry thief to interloper to queen-in-waiting, Romeria flees Cirilea a traitor to all. But the yawning distance between her and Zander troubles her more than any king’s bounty on her head. While Zander may have escaped by her side, he seeks to regain his throne, and no immortal will ever welcome her as Islor’s queen. She fears it won’t be long before Zander abandons her as everyone else she’s ever loved has. Oh... did I mention that she was plunged into a world that considers her a murderess and is sentenced to death by none other than her betrothed?

She putted a lot of details in her books, she created a complex world with an interesting plot.. this book deserves to be knows.I’ve been chasing that feeling since I was in middle school. I’m 24. I finally found it again. I wish I could give this review with infinite stars instead of 5 because 5 just is nowhere near enough. Gracen is such a fantastic and beautiful character! She has been through so much, yet remains gentle and passionate about her family and her simple morals. She is grateful for what she has, even if it is not much and thankful to be alive. It was so beautiful to see someone who is now the King listen, and actually listen, to a simple baker and heed her counsel.

We are introduced to new characters, tentative allies, and new POVs, all of which help add even more depth to this series. There is also a new romance to look forward to! 👀 This book made me feel a whirlwind of emotions. And that ending!! That cliffhanger ending was ILLEGAL!! I need the next book. is it summer 2024 yet??!? i’ll happily trade my pumpkin spice latte for the next book in this series. Also pleasantly for me in this book I did not hate nor roll my eyes at the MCs and their decision-making. Sure they sometimes do things I wish they wouldn't, but so much of what they do do (lolz, I'm an absolute child!) makes so much sense for the scenarios they find themselves in that it just keeps me all the more invested! The slow burn enemies to lovers romance between the two is angsty, full of tension and banter, and entirely full of chemistry. This book made me laugh, cry, and had me on the edge of my seat. Though their reality is a bit dark and scary, I appreciated that love could still find a way (and not just Romeria and Zander this time). There was humor in the face of danger, and Jarek has cemented himself as my favorite character of the series. Long story short, Romy (h, 21) is a skilled thief from New York City who has been *magically* transported into a fantastical realm where she is tasked with stealing a ✦ stone ✦ from a certain sacred garden. The person who ‘asks’ (this is an understatement) her to complete said mission and dumps her into said realm also inexplicably PUTS her inside the body of her evil doppelgänger—Princess Romeria of Ybaris. Yikes! As beautiful as the cover is, it really doesn’t give you any indication of what to expect from this book. Romy is a professional thief from present time NYC and through some crazy circumstances, she finds herself transported to a parallel universe where she occupies the body of an alternate version of herself, a Princess of Ybaris, and everyone wants to kill her!

You are the worthiest of causes I have ever met, that I ever will meet, and I will follow you into the rift if you ask it of me. But do not ever ask me to leave your side.” Wherever it is, I’m beyond pleased that you’re finally letting it loose. You’ve found my weakness, and I’m gonna be here . . . While I may not be guilty, Princess Romeria is, and that’s the only person they see when they look at me. I’m a conniving murderess within their midst, who they’re now forced to guard and feed and serve for the sake of Islor. y'all know how much i enjoyed the previous books but one thing i will not do is lie in a review, even if it's a book i fairly enjoyed because objectively this is a disappointing sequel.

i did not care for the new romance at all. they absolutely had no reason whatsoever to like notice each other, much less be attracted to one another. it felt forced by the author just so we'd have a new romance to root for. not to mention, the power dynamics between a mortal and an immortal in this political climate? just no... and i was also not a fan of the multi POVs. it dragged the entire book and so i felt that the plot was barely moving for 70% of the novel. you see, what i like about Romeria as the main character is that she will definitely stir the pot and DO SOMETHING. she will move the plot and is innately incapable of staying still. it was only until the last 30% that something started happening and it was all because Romeria moved! i'm sorry to say that the rest of the characters are useless. their purpose was only to relay the important information to the reader and Romeria, but honestly we could've done without it considering the discoveries in Ulysede. Zander is broody, serious and extremely loyal to his kingdom and his responsibility to it’s inhabitants. He is also suspicious but strong willed and, given the circumstances, slow to trust but he has an innate need to do the right thing for his people. i can’t even get into more without spoiling the journey for you — which is exhilarating in every way — but know that this installment had me on the edge of my seat, bringing together plot threads that have been delicately woven since the first book. The author knows how to focus in and really develop the key characters, gives us fantastic side characters without going so deeply into their stories that you get bored with the distraction from the plot. The main characters are mature, smart (so, so, SO hard to find main characters that aren’t just straight up annoying in their naivety and/or mannerisms) and so believable and understandable. I cannot stress this enough. with politics and a quest given by the ‘gods’. It has mystery, suspense and continuous twists and turns.

It was obviously recommended to me by Koisty, who has become my official rec dealer, who always seems to know what I need to read and in which particular moment. I write this review after having finished the third book in this series, the fourth doesn’t come out until a year from now. I’m going to be counting down the minutes every moment between now and then. So in this book we have Romy, a gifted thief, who is pulled into another realm by a mysterious woman called Sofie. The only warning she gets is to keep her identity a secret, with no mention of the fact that the body she has woken up in has murdered the royal family and is now fated to be burnt alive at the stake. With no choice she must try to convince the new King-a man who has been betrayed terribly by the previous owner of her body and now despises her-that she can help him uncover the traitor in his court. But with no way home, and danger lurking in every shadow, how will Romy survive in this new world? And can she still go through with her ruse when she uncovers the dark secret the King is hiding from her?

Once you finally get a handle on who's who and why they do what they do, though, you'll want to know more and more. Two rivaling kingdoms - Ybaris and Islor try to merge their enemity by marriage. Princess Romeria's father, the king of Ybaris arranges the marriage of his daughter with the prince of Islor, now King Zander of Islor for peace. But greed and evilness was schemed and things didn't go as planned. There is conspiracy and an army is raising to take the Islorian throne. Romeria of New York tries prove her innocence and for a fact that she has remembers nothing about being Princess Romerio. Because the side characters are just as fantastic as the 2 MCs. Particularly Jarek who is one of my new favorite characters of all time. Followed closely by Bexley.
